Assessing soil index parameters to determine the frost susceptibility of crushed rock aggregates

چکیده
In Norway, crushed rock aggregates are widely used in all layers of pavement infrastructures. Frost heave severely affected the Norwegian road network during cold winters 2009/10 and 2010/11, including newly built roads. 2016, Protection for Roads Railways project (FROST) was set up part to investigate frost susceptibility aggregates. Twenty-three tests were performed on 0–4 mm fraction with nine types different rock, which 2 series measured at crushing stages a production line. The succeeded expand knowledge aggregates, using segregation potential as criterion. However, cost time necessary laboratory work important. Since budget construction rehabilitation variable, methodology estimate soil index properties tested. A investigation carried out compare potentials determined (SP0 lab) those calculated normalized equations (SP0.n), requires only four parameters: specific surface area fine fraction, mean grain-size diameter water content, liquid limit being <75 μm. Results showed good correlation between SP0 lab SP0.n. also strong <8 m2/g, case 19/23 samples. High estimations (≈12.5 m2/g) found early stage believed be cause by weak mineral content enrichment and/or grain-surface irregularities fraction. conclusion, this study confirms that estimation aggregate from is possible reliable. relationship developed determine promising should validated furthermore reinforce relationship.

Free mica grains in crushed rock aggregates
Enrichment of free mica (i.e. as monomineralic grains) in the fine fraction of crushed rock aggregates affects the quality of the aggregate end product. Granitoid rock from the Svecofennian Province were used as being representative of crushed rock aggregates commonly used for construction purposes. The results reveal a general trend of enrichment of mica for finer fractions. For the coarse gra...
متن کاملInternal Curing with Crushed Returned Concrete Aggregates
High performance concrete (HPC) requires a low water-to-cementitious materials mass ratio (w/cm), often with the inclusion of supplemental cementitious materials such as silica fume in the mixture, thus necessitating the use of a superplasticizer. Because of the low w/cm and rapid reaction at early ages, proper curing from the earliest time possible is very essential in HPC. Internal curing has...
متن کاملevaluation of the suitability of fractal dimension of soil aggregates in assessing different soil management practices
a major concern of farmers is deterioration of the soil and water resources. soil management is the most direct way for mankind to interfere with natural processes that may either intensify or hinder soil degradation. fractal geometry has been widely used to describe heterogeneity in a wide range of natural processes, including physical systems of soil. in this study, the effects of different m...

15 صفحه اولMonitoring Roller Vibration During Compaction of Crushed Rock
Real-time monitoring during soil compaction can be made possible by utilizing the vibration signature of a vibratory roller compactor. The compactor and soil constitute a coupled dynamic system, albeit complex and nonlinear. As the soil density increases and its mechanical properties change, the dynamic response of the compactor will change. Developing a thorough knowledge of the relationship b...
